Colline Novaresi DOC
Grapes: Nebbiolo
Pale pink, with a translucent salmon hue, the texture is fine with a soft creamy quality; red cherry and strawberry fruit intricately shot with fresh sage and a lovely lick of salt on the finish. This has benefited enormously from some bottle age. 13%
Mezzatinta is, as the name suggests, a half red, or rosé. A purposeful wine that paints a fine portrait of Nebbiolo rosé from the Alto Piemonte. The thicker skins of the Cobianco clone of Nebbiolo that Guido uses are perfect for this style of wine, along with the Alpine climatic influence that gives huge diurnal swings, and a long growing season, ensuring that every last nuance is drawn from these glacial soils.
The vineyard is worked entirely by hand, cover crops are encouraged, there is a holistic approach to the health of the vines. The grapes are hand-picked into small crates a week before the Tintaunita. At the winery they are de-stemmed and pressed, remaining with the skins for just over an hour. Fermentation is in temperature-controlled steel tanks using selected yeasts.
