Umbria Trebbiano IGT
Grape: Trebbiano Spoletino
Almond, mango chutney, honeyed floral fruit on the nose. Broad and rich on the palate with fresh, flinty, citrus fruit, fattened with banana and mango with a thyme and mineral core. 13.5%
In 2015 Luca planted a tiny plot with Trebbiano Spoletino, it is outside the Spoletino appellation so must defer to ‘Umbria Trebbiano’. The vineyard has a north-east exposure on chalk-rich clays and has been planted at a density of 6500 vines per hectare, Guyot trained, giving just over a kilo of fruit per vine.
The grapes are hand-picked at the end of September, gently destemmed, pressed and allowed to soak for a day before being decanted into 320 litre amphoras to ferment (wild yeasts used) and age for 12 months. The wine is lightly filtered before bottling.
