Pino. Brunello di Montalcino

Pino. Brunello di Montalcino

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Grape: Sangiovese

The 2013 vintage has a well-earned reputation for restrained, fine Brunello and this wine is exactly that. Muscular, supple fruit with black cherry and ripe fig, a presence of spice and no green flavours at all.  Mature tannins corset the wine, which is opening out wonderfully and will be magnificent, I highly recommend cellaring a few bottles.

The vineyard was planted in 2000 on a gentle south-westerly slope at 350 metres above sea level. Grass is left to grow (where it can) between the rows of vines. Only natural fertilisers are used. The grapes were picked by hand and carried the short distance to the winery in plastic crates. The best bunches are selected and separated out for the Brunello, given a lengthy maceration and spontaneous fermentation with regular manual punching down of the skins.
This wine was then transferred to Slovenian oak botti (large barrels of 48hl and 25hl) where it was left to mature for 3 years.. It was then bottled without filtration.

 2013 Brunello di Montalcino reviews:
Vinous 92 pts – Ian d’Agata
Good medium ruby. Sexy, super-ripe aromas and flavors of crystallized red cherry, blackberry liqueur and figs. Plush, pliant and perfumed; not the last word in complexity but creamy and delicious already. The juicy finishing flavors of black cherry and licorice convey an almost candied ripeness. Finishes very long, with serious, broad tannins.
