Roberto’s father, Egidio, loved Friulano, it is the wine that best represents him and carries his nickname of ‘the Rebel’ proudly. Egidio planted the older vines in 1966, Roberto the younger in 1997, both are Guyot trained at up to 5,500 vines per hectare. The local soil, ‘Ponca’, are a marl and limestone that used to provide Egidio with huge yields. Roberto follows a quality over quantity approach and takes 6 tons per hectare, a third of what his father took. The style has evolved from excellent, drinking wine to a seriously complex and fine white wine.
The Friulano was picked by hand in the second week of September, the bunches sorted and de-stemmed before a short maceration and fermentation using selected yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine was aged in steel, on the lees for 9 months before being bottled with a light filtration in June following the vintage.
