Feudo Montoni. Nero d'Avola 'Vrucara'

Feudo Montoni. Nero d'Avola 'Vrucara'

Sicilia DOC
Grape: Nero d'Avola

Intense and deeply coloured, a reticent wine which rewards patience. Sweet tannins evolve into truffle and porcini, deep bramble and plum deeply pad this rich, powerhouse of a wine. 14%

Feudo Montoni producer page

Vrucara is an ancient vineyard, named after the indigenous wild Eucalyptus, balm-mint like bush that surround the cru. The vines are pre-phylloxera, living history and a unique genetic reference point for Nero d’Avola. There is evidence of this vineyard since 1590 (‘De Naturali Vinorum Historia’), this is a true insider wine.
Vrucara is a high altitude site, east-facing, on sandy, clay soils, the vines are bush trained* at a density of 2600 vines per hectare. Farming is along biodynamic lines, involving endless manual work. Selected bunches are destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks on the skins for 30 days, after which the wine is pressed and returned to concrete to go through a natural malolactic conversion. In total, the wine is aged for 42 months in concrete and 4 months in oak before being bottled without filtration.
