Dosio. Barolo Fossati

Dosio. Barolo Fossati

Barolo DOCG
Grape: Nebbiolo

2017
A very friendly Barolo, deep fruit with stone, lemon peel, fine red berry fruit, ripe, sweet tannins and a touch of caramel.  A wine with fine purity and definition.  14.5%

Dosio page

Fossati is an interesting MGA*, the vineyards face east to southeast and are all between 340-480m, the soils are a blue-grey marl that is rich in both clay and iron.  It spans the communes of La Morra and Barolo with the land dropping down into Sarmassa.

Dosio have been making this wine since 1986, they were the first to write Fossati on their label, it is an important part of Dosio history.  The vines have an average age of 40 and are all Guyot* trained.  Farming is carried out on organic lines: no herbicides, and cover crops encouraged between the vines with the objective of creating a balanced ecosystem.

The grapes are hand-picked in the first week of October, de-stemmed and fermented in steel temperature-controlled tanks (25-26ºC) for up to 60 days with daily pumping over.  The wine is then transferred to barriques for 2 years before bottling.
