di Marzo. Greco di Tufo Riserva 'Vigna Serrone'

Greco di Tufo DOCG
Grape  Greco

A phenomenal wine from a remarkable vineyard, the Colle Serrone has a piercing quality: a steely grip of lime, greengage and rocksalt. Excellent balance and concentration. A unique and supremely enjoyable, elegant white wine. 12.5%

“Lovely, full, lively, citrus-fresh, lemon and stones with a flicker of savoury nuts. Delicious.”  Oz Clarke, Three Wine Men

This wine marks a coming of age for Cantine di Marzo, the family that, by some hint of good fortune created Greco has chosen to now demonstrate just how diverse and extraordinary their terroirs are.
Serrone was the first Cru to be released. The vineyard is 8 hectares, half of which is planted with Aglianico. The vines were planted in 2005 and 2012, there is a small part ‘Toppola’ which was planted in 1982 and 1983. The altitude is 380m, the slope faces from south to southwest. The soils are rich in sulphur with generous clay and chalk in the topsoils. The Greco vines are Guyot trained at a density of 3000 plants per hectare which yield 70 hectolitres per hectare. Ferrante sees Serrone as ‘the hooligan’, immensely talented, but unpredictable in youth and brilliant if given time to mature.
The harvest is by hand in the middle of October with the pick of the crop selected for this single cru wine. The grapes are ‘gently’ pressed and the free run juice inoculated with local yeasts for a temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks. The wine remains on the lees for a month and goes through a partial malolactic conversion. Before bottling the wine is filtered, after bottling it is matured for at least a year in the underground cellars of the Cantina.
