The truth is that Ferrante loves Greco, he sees the Aglianico in Santa Lucia as a gate crasher, one that has been there for over 50 years, taking the perfect terroir away from his Greco di Tufo. I suspect it is only a matter of time before this error will be corrected, it just depends how busy Ferrante is.
The terroir is a mix of sulphur, clay and limestone prevalent in this area. Trained using a cordon spur system at around 3000 vines per hectare, the vines are allowed twice the space of modern vineyards. All the work in the vineyard is by hand and the harvest is towards the end of October. The bunches are sorted before being crushed, fermentation is at a relatively high temperature and lasts 10 days, the aim is good colour and tempered tannins. The wine is then matured in the barrique and tonneaux that once held Taurasi for 1 year, then a light filtration before bottling.
