Conte Emo Capodilista. La Montecchia 'Ca Emo'
Rosso delle Venezie IGT
Grapes Merlot 40% , Cabernet Franc 30%, Cabernet Sauvignon 25% and Raboso 5%
2016 was an unusually good vintage which balances vigorous ripe fruit with restraint. Plum, blackcurrant, strawberry jam and fig, lovely depth and fine mature tannins. Intense and pure, a delicious wine. 13%
Producer: Conte Emo Capodilista
Ca’ Emo translates to Emo’s house, apt as this is exactly that, the house wine of La Montecchia. In the past the style would have been simple and crisp, a refreshing tonic after a day’s work. However tastes, viticulture, the climate and even the nature of our jobs change and the wine reflects this. Ca’ Emo is now a baby version of their flagship ‘La Montecchia’. It is ready to drink as it leaves the estate and to do this the blend includes more Merlot and some dried (appasimento) Raboso.
The soils are mixed with sand and clay topsoils over volcanic (trachyte) and maritime limestone rock, the proximity to the Gulf of Venice moderates the climate. The vines are planted at a density of 4,700 vines per hectare, harvested by hand and the grapes are sorted before pressing. The fermentation is in steal tanks and lasts a week after which the wine is aged for a year mainly in Slavonian botti (20hl and 40hl) and some old barriques.
