Carlo Revello. Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’ Annunziata
Carlo Revello. Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’ Annunziata
Barolo Riserva DOCG
Comune di La Morra, MGA Rocche dell’ Annunziata
Grape: Nebbiolo
This is the second vintage of Annunziata that Revello have made; it was a very hot and dry year, not unlike 2003. Fortunately, in 2017 there was Spring rainfall, and a little in September to freshen the grapes. The wine has remarkable depth and power, hinting at dried fruit, rose and tabaco, everything slightly exaggerated yet perfectly balanced. 14.5%
Once part of Marcenasco, a name recorded in 1194 when the land was farmed by the Benedictine monks from the San Martino monastery. Carlo Revello has just 5 rows of Rocche dell’Annunzata, the Nebbiolo Lampia vines are over 60 years old. Their land faces southwest, catching the early morning sun, the soils are a combination of blue chalk, sand, silt and clay; why this MGA is so special is a question that is unlikely (and unnecessary) to be resolved.
The bunches were de-stemmed before sorting and underwent a spontaneous fermentation in steel, on the skins for the first 2 weeks, after which the wine was pressed and held in steel before being moved into 3 used French oak barrique (from Burgundy) for 2 years.
