Antoniolo. Coste della Sesia Nebbiolo 'Juvenia'
Antoniolo. Coste della Sesia Nebbiolo 'Juvenia'
Coste delle Sesia DOC
Grape: Nebbiolo
The 2020 has remarkable stature, rippling power and glorious sapidity. Like all Antoniolo's red wines it is bottled without filtration and it has thrown a sediment, so we recommend decanting. 13%
This is a pure Nebbiolo made from the young vines of the estate’s vineyards, all of which fall within the Gattinara DOCG. The thinking behind Juvenia is to make a good red wine that is ready to drink as soon as it is released; for the fruit to be open and typical of other Antoniolo wines, whilst at the same time being affordable enough to enjoy on a regular basis.
The Nebbiolo is harvested by hand alongside the fruit for the Gattinara and is sorted before being left to a spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks, then it is aged in steel for another year and a half before being bottled, and then aged for another year before its release.
old notes
2017
A little deeper than usual, 2017 was a warm vintage and this has some spice and smoke on the nose, the fruit is rich and floral with rose, damson and black cherry fruit. More mini-Gattinara than Coste della Sesia.
2016
Unforced Nebbiolo fruit with fine tannins gently gripping rose petal and dark berry fruit flavours. A charming, classic mineral wine which is drinking beautifully now and will continue to evolve with grace. 13.5%
October 2024, the wine is still remarkably fresh, floral character has dissolved into rich red berry and porcini.
