The Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo Case

This east-west strip below the Monte Rosa was once a foundry for great Nebbiolo wine; sales of Spanna (the local name for Nebbiolo) far exceeded those of Barolo, Lessona was even honoured to toast the unification of Italy in 1870.  
Wars, weather and industry turned vineyard to forest and, whilst we are witnessing the rise of the legendary Nebbiolo towns of Gattinara, Ghemme, Boca, Lessona, Bramaterra and Valdengo, numbers are unlikely to ever reach their glory days, their quality however is better than ever.
