Vercellino. Ferruccio
Vercellino. Ferruccio
Vino Rosso
Grape: Nebbiolo
Ghemme gives Langhe-like power to the Nebbiolo: deep wild strawberry and damson, lifted by the typical orange peel and bright forest berry fruit of Lessona. Really lovely now and it will cellar well. 13.5%
Production: 2000 bottles

Ferruccio was born out of the disastrous hailstorm of 2021 that forced Lorenzo to find more fruit to fill his beautiful new, and unfortunately large Slavonian oak barrel (botti). He could not find any available Nebbiolo within the Sesia DOC, so went further afield; over the river (Sesia) and into the Novarasi DOC, where he found Nebbiolo from within the Ghemme DOCG. A bastard blend of Nebbiolo from the left bank (Lessona), with the right bank (Ghemme), there is no DOC for such a crazed Alto Piemonte creation… this is a ‘Super-Piemonte’ like no other! Lessona has sandy acidic soils and Ghemme silty clays; both vineyards are around 300m, planted with Guyot trained vines. The bunches were sorted as they were picked, before being destemmed, crushed and fermented in temperature controlled steel tanks, with some pumping over. The wine was matured in botti for 7 months and bottled without filtration.
