Cantina Sampietrana producer page

Fiano is a native of Campania, it was on the verge of extinction when it was picked up, dusted down and reinvented by the legendary Mastroberardino in the seventies. Since then it’s rise has been meteoric, it has been adopted by Molise and now Puglia where it seems quite at home with the heat and there is growing optimism that this could be the answer to the regions drought of quality white wine.

Sampietrana has a single hectare planted to the variety, it is on deep clays which have a high proportion of chalk with a modern spur cordon training is utilised. The vineyard was planted in 2010 and the yield is ninety hectolitres per hectare, however only the first part of the pressing is used and from every hundred kilos of grapes they are getting sixty five litres of wine.
The harvest is towards the end of August and grapes are picked by hand in the early light, transported directly to the winery for a gentle pressing and temperature controlled fermentation in steel tanks.
