Roccafiore. Rosso 'Melograno'
Umbria Sangiovese IGT
Grape: Sangiovese
Typical Sangiovese black cherry fruit, the tannins are unusually controlled, just a touch of dry grip on the finish. There is a lovely purity to this wine, it has a pleasing lightness that suits being served cold, and we think it improves for being opened an hour or 2 before drinking. 12.5%
Sangiovese Grosso, planted in 2004 on white clays, over limestone. The vines are Guyot trained, and the exposure is to the northeast.
The harvest is manual, and the bunches are de-stemmed but not pressed; the fermentation is a semi-carbonic, whole bunch for 7 days using wild yeasts in temperature controlled steel tanks. The wine is aged for 9 months in steel tank before bottling.
