Matt Gregory The English Winemaker
Wine of England
Grapes: Pinot Noir (50%) Pinot Gris (50%)
The carbonic fruit is evident in a strawberry shoelace style fruit and a touch of cherryade, it is joyful but not slight. 11%
What grows together goes together, and Matt loves to combine his two Pinots: Gris adding some lift and character to his Noir. A perfect pair: the 2023 is a blast of rosehip, raspberry and sherbert - a lively, long acidity that continues to race into hillside thunderstorms after the fruit fades.
Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris were carbonically macerated separately for 10 days. They were then pressed and unlike 2020, alcoholic fermentation happened together. Fermentation was kick started by the addition of a Pied de Cuve culture that we started in the vineyard 10 days previously. The wine was bottled without being fined or filtered.
