The Spanna is made from Massimo’s younger Nebbiolo vines, mostly from ‘Vigneto del Putin’: Lampia and Michet are planted at the top of the vineyard, the hottest part, and Picotendro at the bottom. Picotendro was once widely planted through Lessona. Most of the Putin vineyard was planted in 1984. The wine also uses grapes from the younger vines grown in the Gaja vineyard.
The Nebbiolo is fermented in temperature-controlled tanks using selected yeasts. It goes through a 20 day maceration and completes malolactic conversion in steel before being transferred to used barrique for 12 months.
Horse manure is used as fertilizer in the vineyards, we have defined this as Vegan friendly, but some may not agree.
