Lessona Riserva DOC
Grape Nebbiolo

2013
Bitter black cherry on the nose; sloe and bramble, dense rich fruit with a freshness and length. A majestic wine of real vigour and elegance.  13%

2014
The 2014 Lessona is an individual wine, the orange skin, rose and citrus elements are lifted, the fruit fine and tannins balanced, the oak remains a little overbearing, I am convinced this will be extraordinary, far from the old Parker mould and honestly, some way from the uncompromising, historical character of Massimo’s Lessona, this is a lighter vintage, and it has received the same winemaking approach and what has come out is quirky and original.

2015
This wine was taken exclusively from the Leria vineyard, it is an extraordinary wine, a powerful and elemental wine.  On the nose, bramble and flint, the palate holds a depth of bramble, red berry, orange skin, truffle, it is huge and magnificent. 13.5%

Clerico’s Lessona Riserva is an iconic Biellese wine, the style is uncompromising and individual. Massimo uses only the oldest Nebbiolo vines from Vigna Gaja and some Vespolina. These grapes are hand-picked when they are at optimum ripeness. Massimo uses an extended fermentation on the skins using a ‘submerged cap’ for 40 days. The extraction of flavour is marked, the tannins can be a little aggressive when the wine is young though they soften majestically. The wine is then aged in botti, large French oak barrels for 3 years and bottled unfiltered. It is matured for at least another year before being offered for sale.
