Iandolo. Timorasso 'Derthona'

Iandolo. Timorasso 'Derthona'

Colli Tortonesi DOC
Grape: Timorasso

There is more than a hint of Riesling in this wine: steely, freshly squeezed lime, torn basil, sage and citrus tropical fruit.  A bone dry, intense, and complex white wine, piercing and powerful, delicious right now, yet with the promise to develop over many years.

Derthona is the Roman name for the area now called the Colli Tortonesi.  Derthona wines must be made from Timorasso that is cultivated in the Colli Tortonesi.  This is an ancient wine that is enjoying a deserved resurgence, great names from Barolo and Barbaresco are investing heavily here.

This is Francesco’s first ever wine, made from a rented 30 year old, vineyard.  The soils are thin, rich in chalk, sparsely laid over a bed of limestone.

The vintage was by hand at the end of September.  The bunches gently pressed, then macerated* for a few hours to allow the juice naturally to flow out.  The fermentation was with selected yeasts, in a steel temperature-controlled (16ºC) tank.  The wine was then aged on the lees* for 1 year with a weekly bâtonnage*.
