The 2020 was the last Tintaunita made in this style: Nebbiolo, blended with other local varieties, Croatina and Vespolina. Through the winter of 2020 the Croatina and Vespolina vines were replaced with young Nebbiolo (Cobianco) vines, so, we are a little nostalgic about this wine and are so happy to be giving it to the Wine Club. Later vintages are lovely, the 2020 just has its own, quite unique character.
The vines were over 70 years old, all (including the Nebbiolo) Guyot-trained. The glacial soils are farmed without synthetic chemicals, using cover crops to suppress weeds, and complimentary planting to encourage a balanced ecosystem.
The grapes are hand-picked into small crates and all de-stemmed before fermentation in steel tanks. The wine remains on the skins for 14 days, then matured, whilst going through malolactic conversion in steel tanks over a 6 month period.
