Grape: Vespolina, Croatina (5%)

Spicy, fresh bramble and plum, salt and raspberry.  There is an uncommon purity to the wine, with an appealing wayward element.  There is 5% Croatina in the 2020 vintage which adds a nice twist of spice. 13%

In 2017 the Bramaterra rules were changed to allow more Nebbiolo into the Bramaterra, and that gave the opportunity to make a first ‘straight’ Vespolina.  DNA profiling has confirmed that Vespolina has a parent-child relationship with Nebbiolo, and it is usually blended with Nebbiolo, which works really well.  As a single variety it is fascinating, not quite the structure of Nebbiolo, but the vines are over 25 years old and there is real depth and quality.
