Colombera & Garella. Lessona 'Pizzaguerra'
Grape Nebbiolo and Vespolina (5%)
A warming vintage with an unusually muscular feel, elements of rose and violet. 12% Production 3000 bottles
Lessona is one of the smallest DOCs in the Piemonte, there are only nine producers. Around the village it is common to find maritime sands over volcanic bedrock. It is a unique terroir and the soils have an unusually low PH. The Pizzaguerra site is at an altitude of four hundred and fifty metres, the vines are around thirty years old and the production is perilously small while Giacomo and Christiano fashion the vineyard into their model system.
Grapes are handpicked by the family and one single employee (Bian). The fermentation uses wild yeasts an is in concrete tanks with no temperature control. The wine is then aged in old barrique and tonneaux for twenty-four months and bottled without filtration.
