This wine marks a coming of age for Cantine di Marzo, the family that, by some hint of good fortune created Greco has chosen to demonstrate to us just how diverse and extraordinary their terroirs are. The first Cru to be released by Ferrante is the Serrone, a vineyard at an altitude of 380m on a slope that faces from south to southwest. The soils are unusually rich in sulphur with the clay and chalk dominant. The Greco vines are 30 years old, Guyot trained at a density of 3000 plants per hectare which yield 70 hectolitres per hectare.
The harvest is by hand in the middle of October with the pick of the crop selected for this single cru wine. The grapes are ‘gently’ pressed and the free run juice inoculated with local yeasts for a temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks. The wine remains on the lees for a month and goes through a partial malolactic conversion. Before bottling the wine is filtered, after bottling it is matured for at least a year in the underground cellars of the Cantina.
