Collection: Plantamura

Gioia del Colle, Puglia

Gioia del Colle is midway between Matera and Bari, high in the hills of central Puglia.  The town’s fortune is built on Primitivo and cheese.  This land is blessed with chalk-rich, maritime limestone; the swings between day and night temperatures refresh the vines and create constant breezes, making these hills, by Pugliese standards, unusually clement.

There is an appealing simplicity to Plantamura;  a small, family business that makes Primitivo wines from a modest home and cellar on the edge of the town where Mariangela lived as a child.  Today, the family have 10 hectares of organically farmed vineyard and bottle 3 wines, all Gioia del Colle.  Mariangela is responsible for the cellar, which is spotless and functional; her husband, Vincenzo, looks after the vineyard.  They work with their daughters: Chiara, who is studying oenology, and Alessia, who is concentrating on languages.  This is a very special, close team with commitment to both the land and the family.
