Arezzo, Toscana
Cincinelli is a lovely 50ha farm in the northeast of Tuscany, close to the Umbrian border. It is outside of the famous (local) wine regions of Chianti Classico and Cortona, these hills are a mix of agriculture and woodland. Cincinelli started in 1940 when Siro Cincinelli planted vines in the Casentino; the business was selling grapes and it had been a great success, some of Tuscany’s biggest names are customers. Today, Marco is at the helm, and he has grown the bulk business that made this farm successful; he farms organically and has converted an old farm in the middle of the vineyards into an agriturismo. Marco also started bottling his own wines in 2016 and is concentrating on Mammolo, Sangiovese and Syrah. The philosophy here is very different, the grapes are hand-picked, from the oldest vines, his obsession, though, is with the unfashionable, and extremely rare Tuscan red grape type: Mammolo.
