Vicentini. Soave Superiore 'Il Casale'
Soave Superiore DOCG
Grape: Garganega
There is a lovely element of pepper and spice to this vintage. It is typically precise and direct; intense apricot and lime fruit, sea salt and wet stone. A triumph. 13.5%

Soave has over 7000 hectares of vineyard, mostly planted with Garganega and usually the best land is within the ‘Classico’ zone that surrounds the town of Soave. The Casale vineyard is on the outside and yet, it is consistently one of Soave’s best wines. This has much to do with 50 year old vines, volcanic soils, low yields and intuitive winemaking of the Vicentini family. The altitude is not particularly high, it is the terraces that ensure a constant air movement through the Guyot-trained vines. The constituent parts provide balance, this is a modest, educated wine.
The grapes are hand-picked, sorted and de-stemmed before being fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine is kept in contact with the fine lees to add texture, stabilised naturally and lightly filtered before bottling.
Special past vintage note:
2014
We particularly liked the 2014, it was a wet vintage yet with careful vineyard management the vines reached a full, natural ripeness.
