Red cherry, violet and raspberry, even some rosehip aromas.  Ripe strawberry and red berry fruit, a gentle grip of sour cherry, nutmeg and anise.  Alarmingly easy and quite complex, creamy, delicious wine.  13%

The vineyard is planted at 5000 vines/Ha using a 'cordone speronato' system. Two kg of fruit are taken from each vine, the Sangiovese and Bombino are picked first in the middle of September, then the Montepulciano and finally the Nero di Troia.
Fermentation is in steel tanks and lasts seven days with a regular pumping over.
The wine is aged for six months in steel and bottled with a light filtration.

I read somewhere that in local dialect Cacc’e Mmitte means something like ‘pour it, drink it and go again’, the Lucera bit refers to the very lovely local ancient city. Right or wrong, the translation is apt; this is epic drinking and a wine that truly flatters food.
