The Roero DOCG has an appealing simplicity: a red wine from Nebbiolo and white from Arneis, single varietal wines from the established, quality cultivars of the area known as Roero.
Gabriele’s label represents the diversity of agriculture in the Roero: bunches of grapes alongside corn, hazelnuts and peaches, it is this biodiversity that makes the area so special.
Gabriele now makes his Roero from the Barbarini vineyard, the vines were planted in 2016 on a sandy, southwest facing slope.
The crop is usually thinned a month before the harvest; however a severe April frost took enough growth to make this unnecessary. The Nebbiolo is hand-picked, and rigorously sorted before a 30 day temperature-controlled fermentation using selected yeasts, about 10% of the wines uses whole bunch fermentation. The wine is matured for 18 months in 3, second passage barrique.
