Cantina Sangro. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 'Terra Regia'

Cantina Sangro. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 'Terra Regia'

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC
Grape: Montepulciano

There is a lovely loose, pure, rich, velvety damson, plum and black cherry fruit, just a touch of vanilla.  Fine mature tannins, a straight, contemporary Montepulciano that is seriously good.  It is worth taking a second to consider this wine, it is better than you may realise! 14%

Cantina Frentana and Cantina Sango producer page

Terra Regia is an important name from Cantina Sangro’s past, it harks to a time when these lands were within the Kingdom of Naples; the name is now reserved for Sangro’s best wines, an integral part of their ongoing ‘Quality Project’.
Montepulciano is the local red grape that dominates the Abruzzo.  The Terre Regia vineyards are sandy loams on slopes facing Southeast, Southwest and South.  The vines are between 10 and 15 years old.  Gianni’s wine combines the floral, full fruit of Montepulciano, with the softening, gentle spice gifted by 12 months ageing in 2hl and 3hl French oak botti*.  These large barrels are a great improvement on the 225ltl barriques used in the early days.
