Zeni (Roberto). Metodo Classico Riserva 'Maso Nero'

Zeni (Roberto). Metodo Classico Riserva 'Maso Nero'

Trento DOC
Grape: Chardonnay

A full, finely structured wine with lemon, grapefruit and ripe herb flavours, white flowers and hints of vanilla. A summer-like freshness and beautiful purity and flavour.
This vintage saw one hundred percent of the Chardonnay fermented and aged (for six months) in used barriques. After the first fermentation the alcohol was 11%, the wine was then bottled in preparation for its second fermentation. The time on the lees was over four years.
Dis. May 2016

The Zaraosti vineyard is on the slopes of Mount Corona, a natural window on the Campo Rotaliano. The old farm was bought by the Zeni family in 1988 which according to local legend was a hideout for local bandits and from somewhere in the mists of time emerged its name ‘Maso Nero’.
The vineyard is at an altitude of four hundred and fifty metres, just over three hectares in size and the vines are trained using a traditional ‘Double Trentino’ system at a density of just over three thousand plants per hectare.
The harvest is in the first week of September, which is a little earlier than for the still wines since acidity is a vital component in sparkling wines. The percentage of Chardonnay fermented in oak and steel depends on the vintage. The wine is bottled and left on the lees for 42 months before disgorgement.
