Tascante. Etna Rosso 'Ghiaia Nera'
Etna Rosso DOC
Grape: Nerello Mascalese
2017 (13.5%)
Beautifully fresh, floral fruit: blueberry, cherry with a fine, citrus lift. Medium bodied, a fine red wine that celebrates the fresh fruit character of Nerello Mascalese.
50,000 bottles made
Ghiaia Nera means ‘black gravel’, an apt description of the dark, volcanic soils on which the Nerello Mascalese is planted. The Ghiaia Nera is made from the younger vines, most being between 8-10 years old from grapes grown in both the Castiglione and Randazzo vineyards. These are north-facing and espalier trained at a density of 4500 vines per hectare.
The harvest was by hand in the last part of October. The grapes are pressed, macerated and fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine is then aged for a year in 25hl* oak botti*.
