Socre. Barbaresco 'Roncaglie'
Roasted yellow pepper and ripe raspberry and blueberry aromas. Deep, rich harmonious fruit with spice, fig and a touch of natural vanilla and balsamic.
Roncaglia is a Barbaresco that is only made in the best years. The grapes are taken from the top part of the vineyard from vines that were planted in 1963 and 1969. It is a cru known either as Roncaglia Alto, Roncaglie Alto or Sucré. The natural shape of this hilltop marks it from the larger and lower section of the vineyard, Roncaglie (Cencio). The exposure of Roncaglia Alto runs from southwest to west-northwest, the highest point is two hundred and seventy metres. It is a fine site with clay and sand topsoils on limestone, resulting in wines are renowned for their elegance. Bordering alongside the is Gaia’s famed Sorí Tildin and Costa Russi vineyards.
The vines are picked by hand and fermented in fifty hectolitre oak casks for around three weeks. The wine is then aged in used barrique and tonneaux for twelve months and another year and a half in botti (large oak casks).
