Rosso di Toscana IGT.
Grape: Pugnitello.

Open, ripe fruit on the nose, the tannins are more pronounced, nice and ripe though with red berry, coffee even some liquorice. A hot vintage wine that needs time.

This is a monovarietal Pugnitello, an ancient vine identified by the University of Firenze as having great potential yet plantings remain extremely rare, the most famous wine being the pugnitello released by San Felice from Castelnuovo.

The vineyard is just two hectares, south facing, planted ‘spur pruned cordon’ at a density of 4800 plants per hectare. Grapes are hand-picked and de-stemmed prior to fermentation, which is in steel tanks at a controlled 28?C for twenty days with frequent pumping over. The wine is aged in used medium-toast barrique for twelve months and spends a further eight months in bottle before release.

Spicy rich fruit, a great vintage. This is a proper ‘big feast’ wine to accompany fine venison or hard cheeses.
An immediate and fresh tasting wine with pure blackcurrant and red berry fruit, a touch of clove and black pepper and a beautifully floral nose. Mature truffle and cocoa flavours are now coming through and the fruit is taking on a beautiful patina, excellent wine. 13.5%
