This is a difficult wine to make well, the best examples are found in the extraordinary Ramandolo DOC in the north east of the Friuli. This works because it not trying the assimilate Ramandolo, it is a late harvest wine from 14 year old vines which is fermented and aged in steel. The alcohol is a modest 12% and the residual sugars (80g/l) are natural and unforced by either drying or botrytis.
