We have bought Girlan’s Gewurztraminer for almost 2 decades and have enjoyed seeing this wine come into sharp focus; the objective of their classic line is to make fresh, pure wines with lower alcohol and clean acidity. The fruit was from the highest vineyards in the famed sites of Girlan, Mazon and Egna, which suit this style best. The soils around Girlan are Morainic, there is more volcanic rock in Mazon and Egna.
The grapes are hand-picked in the cool of the morning and transported to the cellar in small crates. Fermentation is in temperature-controlled steel tanks, the wine is then aged on the lees in steel tanks.
