Valle De Aoste DOC

The name Barmet references the small caves traditionally used by vignaioli for storage and refreshment. arrying anything more than is absolutely necessary up and down these perilous slopes is folly.
This wine is the direct descendent of the simple village wines of the Aosta, made in a modern idiom with absolute precision and no fuss.
The vineyards are above 350 metres and the vines mainly between 25 and 30 years old. The training is known locally as Valdaostan Pergola, a labour-intensive system where the vines are planted at a density of 4000 plants per hectare. The soils are gossamer-thin over schist and quartz rock. The work in the vineyard is exclusively by hand, the grapes are transported from the vines to the cantina using the perilous-looking, micro-monorail.
The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks using selected yeasts. The wine goes through malolactic conversion in steel and is bottled the spring following the vintage after a light filtration.
