Castell'in Villa. Poggio delle Rose Riserva
Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
This is the top Sangiovese wine of Castell'in Villa and regarded as one of the finest in Chianti Classico. A thoughtful and very definitely Castell'in Villa wine, miraculously unadulterated by the new oak, concentrated and yet understated. 14.5%
The fruit is always taken from the vineyard after which it is named: 'Poggio delle Rose' and it is a wine that is only made in the best years.
Whilst Coralia is undecided as yet regarding the relevance of the new Gran Selezione category, I suspect that were she to join the party, this would be the wine to go.
The vineyard is on a south-southwest slope at an altitude of 350m. The soils are a typical galestro, alluvial with small stones, a mixture of clays and sands. The vines are a massal selection from the estates' best Sangiovese.
The harvest is by hand and the fermentation spontaneous in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine is aged in new French oak tonneaux for eighteen months and is bottled without filtration.
