Picech. Jelka

Picech. Jelka

Collio DOC
Grapes: Friulano(40%), Malvasia Istriana (40%), Ribolla Gialla (20%)

A deep and powerful wine, 2017 was hot, the flavours lean towards rich citrus and blood orange, waxy and full with elements of dry hay, salt and honey.  13.5%

Roberto Picech, Friuli Collio producer page

A wine that has truly hit its stride, this is now one of the greatest white wines of the Friuli.
The Friulano is de-stemmed before going through a spontaneous* fermentation on the skins, in open oak casks using no temperature control, then matured for 1 year in a large oak barrel.  The Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Istriana are macerated* on the skins for eight to twelve days before being fermented and aged in tonneaux*.  After a year these wines are assembled in a concrete egg and left for 3 years.  The wine is then bottled unclarified and unfiltered and cellared for at least a year before being released.

2015  Unrestrained joy on so many levels. Big waxy fruit, spiced with yellow berry and ripe apple, a legend.  The quantities made are tiny. 13.5%   Awarded 94/100 by Decanter Jul21
