Demarie. Nebbiolo Roero Riserva

Demarie. Nebbiolo Roero Riserva

Nebbiolo Roero DOCG
Grape: Nebbiolo

2018 (only available in magnum)
The 2018 is a fascinating vintage, there were periods of tropical heat and rainfall which resulted in uber ripe fruit that is simply frantically drinkable.  Arguably the most enjoyable Roero Riserva yet.  I suspect that this is not for long aging, not a negative in this case, drink up, its lovely.

2016 (available in bottle and magnum)
Sloe and black cherry on the nose, floral with an undercurrent of violet, hugely inviting.  Rich bramble and red berry fruit, fine silky tannin.

Demarie producer page

Roero attained DOCG status in 2004, the discipline insists that a Riserva must be aged for 32 months of which 6 must be in barrel.

Demarie make their Roero Riserva from the Varasca vineyard, which was planted by Giovanni Demarie when he returned from the war in 1946. The soils are sandy and the land faces south at an altitude of 250 metres. The vines are Guyot trained at a density of 2500 plants per hectare which yield around 55 hectolitres per hectare.

The grapes were hand-picked and sorted before pressing, part of which was by adolescent feet (a pre-school visit included some grape pressing in 2015).

Aged to eighteen months in barrique, a third each: new, one and two year old.
