Zeni (Roberto). Pinot Grigio Ramato 'Fontane'
Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT.
Trento | Pinot Grigio.
An eye catching rosé; faint berry aromas, lovely cherry and strawberry fruit and beautifully mineral on the finish.
If anything, this gets better with age. PG is first cousin to Pinot Noir, quality is quality.
Ramato means coppery and that is how Pinot Grigio looks when it is given a brief period on the skins, it is not an all-out red grape but it does have a fair bit of colour. The grapes are handpicked from the Fontane vineyard on the Campo Rotaliano from vines planted at a lowish density of 3300 plants per hectare. The grapes start their fermentation on the skins and after 12 hours the fermenting wine is decanted into a fresh steel tank where it completes fermentation at a controlled temperature. The wine does not go through malolactic fermentation as freshness and primary aromas is what the family are after.
