Prunotto. Barbaresco 'Bric Turot'

Prunotto. Barbaresco 'Bric Turot'

Barbaresco DOCG
Grape: Nebbiolo

The winter of 2018 was longer than usual, with sufficient rain to replenish depleted ground reserves. The spring was cool with the summer really kicking off in mid-July, rain came in bursts resulting in the vines bolting. The overall result was remarkably soft tannins and super-ripe fruit, generally a vintage that is very forward. The fruit has a lovely, spiced blueberry character, deep and floral.  14%

Bric Turot is a 5 hectare vineyard with a southeast to southwest exposure. Tortonian soils, rich in chalk and marl which are relatively compact, similar to that found in La Morra, and Barolo as well. Bric Turot means ‘top of a small hill’, the name has been used for many years.

The vines are Guyot* trained and follow the contours of the hill. The grapes are hand-picked, de-stemmed and crushed before a temperature-controlled fermentation, with 10 days of skin contact. Malolactic conversion* finished before the onset of winter and the wine was transferred to age in oak barrels of varying sizes for 12 months.
