Le Marie. Nebbiolo Pinerolese 'Debarges'

Le Marie. Nebbiolo Pinerolese 'Debarges'

Pinerolese DOC
Grape: Nebbiolo

Violet, blue and black berries, faint strawberry aromas. It is a young wine with huge potential, there is already a lovely sweetness of ripe fruit that promises so much. On the palate there is fine rose-scented fruit, the tannins press a little - they will fade. An elegant and pure wine delivering what the nose promised, blue and red berry fruit, the faintest mocha and mineral lift. 13.5%

Production 5500 bottles
Please note, Nebbiolo is not a 'named' variety within the Pinerolese DOC, so there is no mention of the variety on the label, where it is simply called 'Rosso'.  Don't worry, it is Nebbiolo, I promise.

The vineyard is on mineral-rich red clays on schist, the PH is very low and the altitude high: between 400 and 450 meters. This means that even in the hottest vintages, the wines maintain their freshness. The vines are trained using a Guyot system and the yield is just 6 tonnes of grapes per hectare.
The harvest is by hand and small crates are used to ensure the grapes arrive undamaged at the cellar. The bunches are de-stemmed and macerated for a week before crushing and a temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks. The wine is aged for three months in botti (2500 litre oak barrels).
Pinerolese DOC is just 30 hectares of vineyard in the foothills of the western Alpes. The disciplinare represents rose and red wines, Nebbiolo must be bottled as ‘Rosso’ and ‘Rosso’ could be a Barbera or Nebbiolo based wine: it is not the clearest disciplinare.
