Collection: Christian Patat

San Giovanni Al Natisone, Friuli

Nec-Otium is a family negociant business which has morphed from Christian Patat’s early winemaking ambitions into a wonderfully anarchic disorganisation of leased, borrowed and bought vineyards.

It started when his friend Enzo Potoni (Miani) decided to use only a part of his harvest and, rather than throwing away the remainder, he let Christian take the grapes, whilst, at the same time, Due Torre had some surplus grapes from a young Merlot vineyard - and so Nec-Otium was born. A moveable feast with a real grasp of the importance of terroir - whilst at the time possessing none.

Today Ronco del Gnemiz shares its home with Nec-Otium, Fondo Indizeno and I Vini di Jacopo.
Christian and his wife, the wonderfully uncompromising Serena Palazzolo, along with any number of friends, have created something very special.
Christian’s wines are from traditional Friulian grape varieties grown on known, highly sought-after sites with genuine provenance. They are unified by a purity of flavour and are, in many ways an homage to the wines of Friulian-wine pioneer, Mario Schiopetto.
