di Marzo. Taurasi Horeca 'Albertus'
There have been subtle changes in how Ferrante now makes this wine. There will be a little less restraint in the future and that is probably a good thing for most, I really enjoy this style and will miss it.
This Taurasi is an epic, deep and rich, loaded with damson and cherry but what sets it apart from others is the elegance and freshness harnessed to power. 13%.
Taurasi is a village lying about half an hour from Tufo, it is a little lower and specialises in Aglianico, the most prestigious of Campania's red wines, thus Ferrante has established an excellent source of Aglianico from Montemarano and Luogosano.
It is a wine that must be aged for three years, one of which must be in wood before being released. Di Marzo ages the wine for 1year in barrique barrels, ranging from 1 to 3yrs old.
The South-facing vineyards yielding 50Hl/Ha, are planted at a density of 4000vines/ha at an altitude of 350m-450m. Topsoils are clay and limestone.
Harvest is by hand, generally in the first few days of November. The wine is made from 100% first run must. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel with 1yr aging in 225ltr barrels of french oak. Production: 2000 bottles
