Greco di Tufo DOCG Grape Greco
Pure deep ripe lemon, mineral with bitter lemon on the finish. Deliciously mineral with herb and floral nuances. Very elegant. 13.5%
Cantina di Marzo's relationship with Greco is a piece of Italian wine folklore: the family bought Greco to Tufo in 1647. The vines continue to be propagated in their own nursery. Ferrante's ambition is now to move his Greco into Italy's top echelons.
The grapes for Scipionis are taken from the oldest part of the San Paolo vineyard, this limits production to around 2000 bottles. They are hand-picked, sorted and pressed with their stems, this reduces the amount of juice that can be taken but also improves the quality of the grapes that reach the press.
Decanter 5 Star and Regional Winner ('Southern Italy Whites') in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2013: "Elegant style with a white flower bouquet and a herbal, very mineral nose. Lemony austerity, fennel and rhubarb, stone fruit and a touch of asparagus. Harmonious, with a citrussy, mineral finish."
