The vineyard is surrounded by woodland and fruit trees, a protected and beautiful environment under Mont Vulture. The Aglianico vines are between 15 and 20 years old, planted using a Guyot system at a density of 6000 vines per hectare. The combination of altitude (500m) and low PH of the soils lengthens the growing season and restricts the vigour of the vines resulting in low yields (60hl/ha), great concentration and lowish alcohol. Harvest is by hand and the grapes are sorted before a soft pressing and a natural (spontaneous) fermentation in open oak casks, this takes around three weeks. The wine is matured in a mixture of sizes and ages of barrel for a year before being bottled without filtration.
