Collection: Bulfon

Valeriano
Friuli, North East Italy

The vineyards are planted over eleven of Bulfon’s sixteen hectares, all to the north of the vast plain that is the Friuli Grave DOC. It is ironic that these hills, with their unique microclimate (which even supports olive production), has no official vineous recognition.

Emilio Bulfon is a visionary who saw extraordinary potential in his old, mixed vineyards. Identifying the vines was a serious challenge and a more pragmatic vignaiolo may have done away with this motley collection of unpronounceable vines altogether. Fortunately, he accepted responsibility and adopted this diverse collection of native varieties.

His absolute devotion to the recovery and revival of ancient indigenous vines dating back to medieval times, has enriched the world of wine. His son Lorenzo is cementing this legacy.
