di Marzo. Greco di Tufo 'Somnium Scipionis'
Greco di Tufo DOCG.
Not every bottle will be in perfect condition, this was an ambitious, award winning wine made to age - and the good bottles are lovely. The odd one is a bit flat – far from undrinkable though.
Some years in bottle has cooled if not dampened the ardour of this wine, perhaps it is now more elegant, with pure deep ripe lemon, mineral with bitter lemon on the finish. Deliciously mineral, with herb and floral nuances. 13.5%
The grapes for this wine are taken from the oldest part of the San Paolo vineyard, which limits the production to around 2000 bottles.
The grapes are hand picked and pressed with their stems, this reduces the amount of juice that can be taken but also improved the quality of the grapes that reach the press.
Decanter 5 Star and Regional Winner ('Southern Italy Whites') in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2013: "Elegant style with a white flower bouquet and a herbal, very mineral nose. Lemony austerity, fennel and rhubarb, stone fruit and a touch of asparagus. Harmonious, with a citrussy, mineral finish."
