Umbria IGT.

Grape: Sangiovese.

Even though this has a screw top, there have been some problems with trapped CO2 in the odd bottle – when it’s good it is ridiculously good value. The price takes the risk into account.

The taste is both generous and genuine: ripe cherry, a touch of basil and mint, attractively rustic and wonderfully refreshing. 13%
The grapes are mainly taken from around the agriturismo near Torgiano, where the vineyards look towards Assisi on the other side of the valley. This is a pure Sangiovese made from a wild yeast fermentation in steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Imagine crushing a handful of raspberries, black cherries and wild strawberries, the stalk and earth; that is what is smells like, real.
