5000 bottle production.
The people of Caluso were blessed with the gift of the Erbaluce vine by a fairy called Albaluce, that is one possibility for the name and even the existence of this ancient variety. It does not explain why the variety is not widely planted considering that even the court of Napoleon recognised its excellence.
The vineyard is on a southwest facing slope, the soils are glacial, washed out though rich in potassium and phosphates. The yields are around 70 hectolitres per hectare, the vineyard is worked by hand and the grapes picked early in the morning and transported in small plastic crates to be vinified in Gattinara. There is no period of maceration, the grapes are gently pressed and ferment in temperature-controlled steel tanks using inoculated selected yeasts. Malolactic transformation is blocked, the wine is then aged in steel tanks for 5 months before bottling.
Lorella’s taste for seafood has almost certainly influenced her brother Antonio’s styling of this wine, this is absolutely straight Erbaluce, a perfect aperitivo that will run through to fish or even cheese dishes.
